1974 Vintage Black Fender Telecaster Custom. Keith Richards. I’m feeling pretty down about parting with this guitar. I’ve put in a lot of work and care and it’s absolutely great. If you’re looking for the Keith Richards vibe and/or a real cool vintage instrument ready to take from your front door to the stage or studio, this is it. Please read the description carefully! As far as I know, I’m the second owner and when I purchased this in 2010, it wasn’t playable. The tuners were slipping, frets were flat and uneven, the saddles were extremely difficult to intonate and the bridge pickup was thin and lifeless. So, we took of everything. The frets have been expertly replaced here in Nashville and have tons of life left. The bridge pickup has been replaced with a Seymour Duncan BG-1400. Much thought was put into this decision, as it needed to be a good match with original wide-range humbucker. We on landed this after auditioning a few and it’s absolutely killer. From Seymour Duncan: …The rudest Tele lead pickup we make will hit back whatever you throw at it. The BG-1400 is constructed with two very overwound coils on top of one another that both hand out its thick tone and stay quiet when you’re playing on stage, in the studio, or at home. Alnico 5 magnets are used for added pick attack presence. The tuners have been replaced with vintage-correct Klusons. While these are identical to the originals, they were not perfect drop-ins and required some minor routing to fit properly. This may a deal breaker for a collector, but I had to make a decision whether to play it, or put it on the wall. The bridge saddles have been replaced. You can intonate these properly and they retain their vintage appearance. Between the saddles and tuners, the guitar plays and stays in tune completely. *The original bridge pickup, tuners and saddles are included and packed in the case. The guitar is in overall excellent condition for a vintage instrument. Please note that the area just above the nut shows some string wear. The nut was cut too low when I received the guitar and this is the result. There is also some wear in the finish around the 2nd and 3rd frets that does not affect feel or playability. Original case in excellent condition. As far as I know, that’s it. It’s a really outstanding instrument that’s just not getting played enough right now and I’m absolutely sure you’ll be thrilled with it.
