Description Brand: Chandler Limited Model: Germanium
As promised to all those watchers that probably didn't want to bid as the original photo was AWFUL, here are some decent photos of my Germanium in all it's glory. It's in perfect condition, sounds like a dream and built like a tank. So this is my rarely used Chandler Preamp. I worked in a commercial studio and so rarely felt the need to use my home studio gear including this. It's pristine and probably been used 10-20 times at best in its life. Switched on only when I needed it. To be honest, at home I never needed to record anything beautiful like a nice vocal or guitar solo, instead I'd just be doing final additions with percussion and such like, and so I never botherer using the Germanium as it was far simpler to just whack in a mic to my Audio Interface and record direct, the beauty of the Germanium wasn't needed for a shaker or tambourine unless I wanted to really add some character. But heck, Im a lazy producer, I'll admit it, so the simpler and quicker my chain, the better! This really is in superb condition, and if I didn't need the cash I wouldn't be selling it. But alas needs must! Here's some testimonials from Chandlers site:"Used it for the first time yesterday for male/female vocs, elec gtr. Uhhhhh...Holy shit. Nice job dude. In particular, I have a tube mic that is often a little on the bright side, and dialing the feedback just right doesn't take any clarity from it, but smoothes the highs in just the right way. Much better than using EQ!" –BRANDON"Run and buy one... They exceed all the hype in my opinion. The pre is amazing in that FINALLY a guitar amp'd in a room can be bettered without altering the fundamental character of it. Quite a feat IMO, really amazing." –BRIAN LUCEY"I have a lot of mic pres from every kind of angle, from pristine clean to iron to tube and I decided to try one of these Germanium units to see what all the talk was...and holy crap... I was so blown away instantly... no eq...I even forgot to patch in a compressor....and it was polished from the get go... I still hear what I want to hear but it just added so much flavor...Well done gentlemen... Well done!!!" –LOU, ALBERTA CANADA"Man, your GERM preamp is the Holy Grail... run old digital stuff thru it and it miraculously comes back to life... I'm in awe. The XXXXXX used to be my favorite preamp but even the XXXX can't revive dead tracks like the GERM can. IMO you've created the coolest piece of gear ever." –AARONHere's some blurb from Chandler themselves:Warm, Organic, and Chandler's Most Vintage Sounding Pre Amp Yet!The Chandler Limited Germanium Pre Amp/DI is a completely new microphone pre-amplifier design by Chandler Limited designer Wade Goeke that uses classic germanium transistors in an all class A, transformer balanced circuit. The use of germanium devices opens a whole new sound palate not found in any pro audio equipment currently manufactured. These incredibly smooth sounding transistors were the basis of the earliest transistor designs by Neve (1053, 1055, 1057), EMI (TG12345 MKI), Telefunken, and Fairchild. Those familiar with these units can attest to the special sound of the germanium transistor. The GERMANIUM series runs on +40 volt power, high current, and has a huge +34 output before clipping. The sound is warm and smooth, as with many vintage style circuits, but you'll find a whole new world of smooth here, as well as a sound that settles in perfectly to your tracks without fighting. The Germanium uses Chandler's new custom wound transformers that combine the best parts of our favorite St Ives and Gardners input and output transformers. All Germanium units require and function on the PSU-1, Chandler Limited power supply. The PSU-1 has an internal switch for setting voltage to 120V or 220V (115V/230V).
