SANTANA MD - SIGNATURE MODEL - 2008 Probably the best PRS guitar I have ever played. The 24.5" scale length makes the string tension authentically 'Right'. String bending is achieved with ease and the locking tuners keep the guitar in perfect tune. The guitar is best described as mint, but please do come and have a full inspection if you would like to.Classic Santana colour, 10-top model, all paperwork for the MD coil split 'Mastering Voice Control' system. This system allows the player to achieve full 'hum-bucker' and 'single coil' sounds and much more in-between. The mini toggle either puts the system 'on' or 'off' if the system is off then the guitar is in standard Santana pick-up configuration (wooooaaaeee!). There are loads of youtube demos out there.Everything that came with the guitar is still in the case. See photos. The MD guitar was only produced for a few years. It has the spec of the top level Santana guitars. If you do not have the batteries in the back for the 'Mastering Voice Control' system then the mini toggle switch becomes a 'kill switch' which is great to turn off the guitar without having to adjust the volume setting on stage.Advertised on the other usual sites as well. From the PRS site:Carlos -- along with Paul Reed Smith, of course! -- has developed a Santana Signature model which combines some of the best features of all the previous models. Plus some cool new additions.
Santana MD: Guitar of Many TonesThe "MD" designation in the model stands for "Multi-Dimensional," and is a reference to the fact that the Santana MD can achieve a variety of tones. This quality makes it an ideal instrument for guitarists who want to produce a number of different sounds from the same guitar.A large part of this "multi-dimensionality" resides in the electronic circuit. Besides the standard Santana Guitar Volume and Tone knobs, and 3-way pickup selector switch, it includes a mini-toggle that delivers a Strat-like '60s tone -- possibly by putting one or both of the pickups out of phase. The new function is called a "Mastering Voice Control."
Something Old, Something New . . .In keeping with the "best of all possible worlds" theme, the PRS Santana MD guitar includes classic features from previous Santana guitars, like the traditional "Santana wide fat" neck shape, Rosewood fretboard, and Mahogany body with carved flame Maple top and Abalone purfling. An upgraded "10 Top" is available for a $500 fee (retail). However, there are changes as well. Most notably, the positions of the controls have been altered. While the 3-way pickup selector switch and Tone knob are still roughly between the tailpiece and the bridge, the Volume knob has been shifted to a position right next to the bridge pickup. This makes it easier to control the volume while playing, which Santana likes to do. The new mini-toggle is in between the two knobs.Even the famed Abalone bird-shaped inlays on the fretboard have gotten a facelift: instead of being solid as on previous Santana guitar models, they're outlined.
This latest foray into Santana Signature models is allegedly the result of a two-year process of refinement carried on by Carlos Santana and Paul Reed Smith. Part of the inspiration was the Stratocaster that Santana used on a Smokey Robinson album -- and fell in love with.Is this the final in the amazing series of Paul Reed Smith Santana Signature guitars? Only time will tell. But it certainly is a proud moment for these two men who have labored so hard to produce magic from a few pieces of wood and metal.

Anaheim, CA (January 29, 2008) - The release of the new Santana MD guitar was the highlight of PRS''s big news conference at NAMM ''08, easily the biggest gathering of notable guitarists per square foot at any booth at any time during the four-day music industry trade show. On hand for the event were Paul Reed Smith, guitar historian Tom Wheeler, David Grissom (Dixie Chics/Storyville/John Mellencamp), Mike Mushok (Staind), Pat Travers, Howard Leese (Heart, Paul Rogers), Rich Eckhardt (Toby Keith), Frank Romano (Rob Thomas, Usher), Johnny Hiland, Paul Jackson Jr. (Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Quincy Jones), Evan Taubenfeld (Avril Lavigne) and Mike Scott (Justin Timberlake). PRS was celebrating 12 new guitars at the event, many of which were being released at the show. The Santana MD was released during the press conference, in what Santana described as a "sacred" moment. The company describes the guitar as the evolution of the Santana I, II and III models. It has most of the appointments of the Santana II and III models but with two major differences: the knobs are now in McCarty positions, and the instrument includes a special Mastering Voice Control. This Voice Control provides an early sixties sound and clarity to the instrument and turns on and off with a mini-toggle
