Up for sale is a flawless piece of hand-made guitar craftsmanship. This is the Ibanez Bob Weir Cowboy Fancy Signature guitar, model BWM1 BS. We're offering the very last of the fifteen Bob Weir Cowboy Fancy guitars to ever be made by Ibanez. We know that in 2016 Ibanez agreed to build only fifteen of these guitars to be produced in Japan for export to the USA market. When ordered in November 2016 we were told we that we just ordered the very last one ever to be produced. The guitar took six months to build arriving this month (June 2017).   The guitars made earlier in the year sold out immediately. Priced at an MSRP of $10,665 plus shipping from Japan and export taxes, the lucky owners made a wise investment. They're nearly impossible to find (let alone a Brand New one in flawless condition).
We wouldn't be surprised to find that someday the 2016 Cowboy Fancy guitars sell for two to three times the original cost. Unlike the Alembic Jerry Garcia Furthur and Tribute guitars which can be ordered any time, the Ibanez Bob Weir Cowboy Fancy was a limited sold-out production that will no longer become available. So get the last one from us while you can; (we may even accept somewhat less than the offering price making your experience with us an even more satisfying one).
The Ibanez 2016 BWM1-BS (Bob Weir Signature Limited Model), an exquisite handcrafted reissue of Bob Weir’s ‘Cowboy Fancy’ electric guitar originally delivered in 1976 and played in bands like the ‘Grateful Dead’, ‘Kingfish’, and ‘Bobby and the Midnites’.When Ibanez guitar designer Jeff Hasselberger met Grateful Dead guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Bob Weir at the Philadelphia Civic Center, “one of those massive airplane-hanger-style joints”, onstage after a show in 1974, they discussed an innovative guitar with adjustable pickups, a larger headstock providing more sustain, and blending a style that highlights superior attention to a classic American instrument aesthetic and an impressive modern technologic array of functions and fine tune abilities complete with ornate mother of pearl inlay and onboard equalization in what Bob referred to as “cowboy fancy”.Ibanez produced only thirty of these elegant, handmade in Japan 2016 BWM1-BS ‘Cowboy Fancy’ limited edition reissue guitars, shipping fifteen models to the United States available for purchase and fifteen to other global retail destinations. Original list price: $10,665.
Fancy?  There's ornate inlays everywhere; on the top, the Tree of  Life on the fretboard, and even Bobby's nickname "ACE" on the 21st fret at the root of the Tree of Life. This stunning piece is finished in a gorgeous brown sunburst on a solid ash body. The neck is a 5-piece maple and walnut construction with a neck-through design. It holds an ebony fretboard with medium frets and a Ibanez designed tree of life inlay. The bridge is an Accu-cast replica design (specified by Weir) and it contains Dimarzio PAF 36th Anniversary humbuckers in both the neck and the bridge. The middle position holds a Dimarzio Area 61 single coil. The guitar additionally has a 3-band EQ with on/off switching and gold hardware ornamentation. We love the country-western theme of this great looking guitar. It comes with the OHSC and all the case candy packed inside from the factory.
The The completely handmade guitar features a pre-amp with three band active EQ, DiMarzio Virtual PAF and Virtual Vintage pickups, a 5-piece maple/walnut thru-neck with pearl vine inlay, swamp ash body and much more. The so-called "Cowboy Fancy" models were made for Bob Weir of Grateful Dead by Ibanez about 1976. That name comes from an answer Weir gave to Jeff Hasselberger of Ibanez who had asked him what he would like a guitar to look like. Referring to the often ornate inlays on the guitars of the old Country and Western stars, Weir replied, "Let's go for the full cowboy fancy," and so Full Cowboy Fancy it was. The word "Ace" on the fretboard refers to Weir's nickname, which comes from his first solo album of the same name.
The Cowboy Fancy shape was intended to be a compromise between a Gibson ES345, which Bob was playing at the time, and the Ibanez artist. One of the requests by Bob Weir was for a larger headstock than the prior smaller and more ornate Weir model headstocks so as to increase sustain. Hasselberger came up with the Ibanez 3-on-a-side design, which ultimately made its way into smaller versions for the George Benson guitars and other Ibanez jazz guitars. The explanation for the multitude of switches on the recreation also comes from what Bob Weir wanted in the Cowboy Fancy models. Said Jeff Hasselberger in an online reply as to the origins of the guitar: "We made a couple of the 'cowboy' models with a number of switching combos that were constantly going under the surgeon's soldering iron. Basically, Bob wanted as much flexibility of pickup selection as we could deliver. So he had a choice of single coils, series humbuckers, parallel humbuckers, phase reversals and so on. We also used the standard Artist EQ system on at least one of them."
The first Cowboy Fancy guitars featured a sliding middle pickup. Eventually Weir found the position he liked best and that became the ultimate position in the fixed pickup model.

His current band, Dead & Company, which he formed with Grateful Dead members Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, also features John Mayer.
Respected by fans and peers alike as one of rock's great rhythm guitarists, his unique chord voicings and original rhythm approach are legendary. While his arsenal of instruments has been wide and varied over the years, Bob has frequently been associated with the striking, one-of-a-kind "Cowboy Fancy" model, originally built in close collaboration with Ibanez in 1976.Originally based on the body shape of an earlier Ibanez Artist model, the BWM1 was modified with several traditional hollow-body twists that give it its own unique appearance, and embellished with ornate inlay work that recalls the fancy guitars and even fancier outfits of old Country and Western stars of years gone by. Keeping with his own adventurous mindset, the BWM1 was also equipped with a unique electronics setup, specifically requested by Weir during the guitar's development. This latest reissue, the BWM1BS, features a Swamp Ash body and 5-piece Maple/Walnut BWM "neck-through" neck. The bound Ebony fretboard is fitted with medium frets and adorned with the classic Ibanez "Tree-of-Life" inlay, while its larger-than-usual headstock was a specific request from Bob to increase sustain. The Accu-cast replica bridge was selected for its historical accuracy, its superior sustain, and reliable intonation. The BWM1BS includes a DiMarzio® PAF™ 36th Anniversary humbucker in both the neck and bridge positions, along with a DiMarzio® Area 61™ single coil in the middle position. Each pickup is wired for a variety of options that include humbucker coil-tapping and on/off switching for each pickup.
Also included is the special 3-band EQ with EQ on/off switching.
