Gibson 1971 SG Deluxe Solid Body Guitar This is a Vintage 1971 Gibson SG Deluxe Guitar with its original Gibson Logo Hard Shell Case. I dated this guitar using the Gibson serial number and the ‘Gruhn’s Guide to Vintage Guitars’. I bought this guitar in 1992 and all I have needed to do to it is play it, polish it with Stew-Mac polish and change the strings occasionally. This guitar has been played a lot over its 46 years but, it has decades of life left in it. It has been played but, not abused. The SG Deluxe is unique from the SG Standard because all controls are located on the top of the body and it does not have cavities routed in the back of the body. The body and the Neck are Solid Mahogany with a Walnut finish. The Finger Board is Rosewood with 22 Frets and the width of the neck at the Nut is 1 5/8 inches. The Nickel plated Tuners are enclosed Grover’s stamped “GIBSON”. The Bigsby Vibrato Tailpiece is original to this guitar and is stamped Gibson. The Body has some finish crazing on the front body and the neck as well as belt rash on the back and various dings. There is also a chip on the back of the head stock at the low E tuner. These can mostly be seen in the pictures which are as big a part of the description as the description itself. The case is the Original SG Hard Shell Gibson Logo Case. It is not perfect but, does its job to protect the guitar. The interior case pocket was missing when I bought the guitar. The Plush lining is tight around the inside. The vinyl is mostly tight but loose in places around the outside of the case, mostly at the edges. All of the latches and hinges work as they should and the handle has one repair to one of the pivots that is original to when I bought the guitar and it is solid.
