Up for sale is a rare antique violin made by Georges Chanot (1801-1883), with its original Chanot bridge and label. It has a sound that is wide, deep and rich. The violin has an excellent straight medium grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of beautiful flamed maple. It has a fascinating scroll and unique body contour.  An original golden brown oil varnish has been preserved in unusually good shape.  At the lower left corner, there are some dents and scratches, as shown in the picture.  The violin is in good condition overall, with normal wear commensurate with its age, such as hairlines, scratches and dents on its body.  Highly recommended to violin collectors and players.This violin comes from the estate of a professional violinist, and it bears two labels inside, which read respectively: Georges Chanot,  quaiMalaquais, 1 a ParisAnnee 1856 PAUL PECHENART A BRAUX  ADAPE 1902VIOLON "L'IDEAL"BTE S.G.D.G. & DEPOSELength of back:   36.5 cmTotal length:        59.5 cm  The violin is sold as is.
