The secret sauce for the sound of David Gilmore of Pink Floyd, Bootsy Collins and Stanley Clark, its pretty much a Fender Dual Showman Pre in a box., which were known for their super clean powerful tone. The F2B has a small improvement in the input jack circuit, while providing identical functionality. The F-2B is a stereo preamp with a 12AX7 tube in each section and controls for bass, treble mids and volume and a bright/normal switch. With a 300 volt power supply it has incredible dynamics. The EQ is interacting, such that the frequencies affected by each control is changed somewhat by the settings of the other controls. Additionally, when all 3 tone controls are turned to 0 then no signal is passed at all. Very pleasing for electrical instruments. Great sound without needing a lot of controls. Its just musical, warm but also clear. One user said: In fact, I found that the Alembic F-2B has such a wonderful, warm tube sound that I use it on just about everything. Every digital instrument that I use (such as synthesizers, drum modules, and even GigaStudio samples) is routed through the F-2B to add some warmth and dimension to the sound. It’s amazing how much of a difference it makes on some of the synthesizer sounds. Things which may have sounded good but didn’t jump out at you suddenly seem to breathe. I know there are people out there who would pat me on the head and say “It’s called tubes”. But I don’t think it’s that simple. I’ve heard some of the tube preamps that are used primarily for warming up digital signals. The Alembic F-2B does more than that. It doesn’t just give signals warmth, it gives them life. Thanks!
