For sale is a pair -- two (2) -- double-length 2-inch analogue recording tape reels, untouched (new old stock) BASF 911 type, same as EMTEC 911 (and the basis for the more available yet inferior RMG 911 ...note that this authentic NOS BASF tape is offered for only a little more than half of what the same amount of RMG 911 is selling for here on eBay -- $1200). 911 is considered by many great engineers to be the best of the best tape formulation. In the 90s and early 2000's, AMPEX/QUANTEGY 456 or 499 and BASF/EMTEC 900 were the more "normal" +6-style tapes, and QUANTEGY GP9 and EMTEC 911 were the common "+9" style high-output, low-noise tapes (and they cost a little more because of this). GP9 could handle lots of level without distorting, but when it did distort, it didn't sound so great...so it ended up being used more for recording jazz and not too much else. 911 tape on the other hand, also could handle lots of level, yet it still sounded great when saturated while having a very flat frequency response. BASF 911 was really the top of the line tape at the end of the analog era, when tape manufacturing methods were at their peak. Super Hi-Fidelity, super quiet, and very musical...this tape is as good as it gets, and you won't often find N.O.S. reels.  I got a number of these reels I think in 2000 and never ended up using two of them. I have had them stored in the upright position in my temperature and humidity-controlled studio for the past 16 years. Note that these are the double length 14-inch reels. They'll work on basically any 2-inch machine still being used today, or they can be unwound onto a spare 10.5" reel if you need to split it.  Double length 14" reels means 33 minutes of recording time at 30 ips or 66 minutes at 15 inches per second (these were most commonly used for live concert recording -- when you didn't want the tape to run out constantly).  I have held onto these for a while, thinking/hoping I might use them again, but I sadly haven't had the chance to do a 2" session in years, and these things are taking up space and I'm sure would be a treasure to other studio owners and producers who are cool enough to use tape for tracking. The boxes are slightly worn as they have been moved around a few times, but the boxes are still in perfectly decent shape and the tape and reel hubs are untouched and flawless and have basically never been exposed to the elements.  Here is a chance to get a great deal on the best tape ever made, nearly impossible to find and in perfect unused brand-new condition. Price is for the pair of two 14-inch reels (you are getting the equivalent of 4 reels of tape at the standard 10.5" size, yet these are also capable of recording longer passages). I can not stress enough -- this is the best-sounding tape ever made! If you are recording a band, this is probably the best you could ever ask for. Sold as is, guaranteed as described. If you are purchasing from outside the continental 48 United States, that is fine, I use the global shipping program, so they are in charge of the final shipping cost and I can not give you a proper estimate.
