Up for sale is a 1939 Kay Violin-Style Guitar(date stamped and visible inside both F-holes) with the more rare volin-style headstock. Other than 'maybe' the tuners and bridge (note: I believe them to be original but given the age/info available, cannot verify), this guitar is all-original, solid and without any repairs or modifications.  Info on this model is documented as primarily being built from 36-38 with an all-laminate construction, but this guitar does have a solid top (see pic: thru-grain is visible on the side 'lip', however the F-holes are laminate reinforced. It does not not have the original pick-guard.
Structurally, this guitar is solid, clean, straight - no cracks/warps/etc and is a testament to its excellent design and build quality. This guitar plays 'clean' (no real buzz/rattle) with
low to med/low action up the neck with all but a pretty aggressive attack - excellent performer and without issue.
Cosmetically, this guitar has a variety of marks, scratches, and wear thru-out (see pics). Giving its age, I would describe it as above average with a played but solid vintage look.   This guitar looks, plays, sounds great and needs nothing. It includes the older period 'gator' softshell case pictured (I doubt original and not sure one was ever offered). I've seen less than a handful of these over the years and none that even came close to this as far as performance. If you've been looking for one, you might find one a bit cleaner cosmetically but you'd be hard pressed to find one that plays and sounds as nice - a very rare find.
