Description
This classic Marigaux SML English horn was made in France. It is basically sound, but in immediate need of an overhaul, full restoration, and probably a new case. Please do not buy this English horn with the expectation of playing on it right away. It will need a repair tech to work on it. We would do the work, but we're swamped right now, and want to get this sold for an elderly client who can't wait. The grenadilla wood body appears to be uncracked in the top joint. A poorly repaired second joint crack extends from the upper metal band through the first finger tone hole. We have not removed keys to examine the tone holes. There is verdigris buildup around metal areas. It is missing the bottom bell ring. The silver seems sound, and will possibly shine up well. There are no significant wear areas in the silverwork. The bore seems straight and we don't see any inner bore damage. The original double case is torn and very well used but still hanging on for dear life. This could potentially be an excellent instrument but it needs the attention of a double reed technician to bring it back to life. Don't buy this for your child, thinking it's a bargain. It will be a disappointment. An adult who knows what they're getting into may be getting the deal of a lifetime. This is an as-is auction. You'll get exactly what is pictured and described.
