1935 Stradolin mandolin w/ hrdshell case Sweet!
Estimated price for orientation: 600 $
Category: Mandolins
Class:
Description Exact Year: 1935
Vintage 1935 Stradolin A-style mandolin w/hardshell case -- Excellent parlor mandolin for folk and ethnic music.
Perfect for beginners but also serious players & collectors! Lovely sound and good condition. All solid woods. Brown sunburst. Seam separation in back was repaired by Custom Fretted Instruments in Sparta TN. Slight crack running south of bass side f-hole. Neck is straight and unwarpt. Low action. I've owned several Stradolins but this is the one I've held on to the longest because of its throaty sound. Actually, I think the seam separation that was repaired improved the tone. Normal playwear, scraps, scuffs, nicks, dings. See photos. Stradolins have a very thin finish which, though easily scratched, allows the wood to resonate more fully. "1935" is stamped inside the body on the back plate under the end of the fretboard. Date is visible through the treble side F-hole in strong light. Upgrades: Schaller tuners, new nut (1 3/16") with wider string spacing (easier to play if you have big hands!) and an adjustable ebony bridge. Original nut, tuners, and bridge will be shipped with instrument. I also added a chrome strap button to the tailpiece but it can be removed if you're a purist. Comes with free nearly-new hardshell case. Strap not included.History: Pre-war Stradolins like this one are made of all solid woods and have nice throaty sound that can't be found in modern Asian instruments which tend to be bright at best and shrill and tinny at worst. As my local luthier said, to find an American-made mandoliin that has this kind of sound and tone would cost 3-4 times the price. Bill Monroe and Dave Grisman owned and played Stradolins. Free shipping up to 40 dollars max. You pay any additional shipping charge above $40. No returns. Best offers will be considered. I'm downsizing and don't need so many mandolins!
