Up for sale, a 1983 Gibson Chet Atkins CE chambered solidbody classical guitar in excellent cosmetic and structural condition. While this guitar is complete and 100% original, the pickup and preamp are no longer operational and will need to be serviced or replaced. This rare instrument was the result of a direct collaboration between Chet Atkins (who designed the prototype) and Gibson, and the result is a classical guitar tailored to the exacting needs of the gigging musician. If you seek the feel and tonality of a traditional nylon string classical guitar, but with a feedback resistant solid body and articulate electric pickup system, the Chet Atkins CE is one of the only, and arguably the best, option available! Strung with normal tension nylon strings, this Chet Atkins model plays easily with low action and accurate intonation. The three-piece mahogany neck boast a thick slab rosewood fretboard, with a nut width just over 1 3/4" and original frets which are flawless with perfect crowns. The original gold plated Gibson tuning machines turn very smoothly and look great with white pearloid buttons. The "soundhole" features gold script with both Atkins' name and a traditional Gibson script logo. The one-piece mahogany back has a slight belly contour so as to fit against the body very comfortably, and the battery access compartment is on the back of the guitar as well. Overall, this guitar is extremely clean cosmetically, with a few nicks on the top behind the bridge, faint wear in the pick path, and a couple light finish scratches on the back. The rear strap button is also only partially intact, but still works fine. This guitar is an excellent platform for restoration, and is structurally sound and complete! Sold strictly as-is due to currently non-functional electronics, this guitar is sold without any expressed warranty with no returns accepted.
The original brown Gibson hardshell case is included, along with the original warranty card with matching serial number. Please check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar" on the web, and feel free to call us directly with any questions at 206.399.8518.Shipping in the continental USA will be $75, fully insured and shipped via FedEx Ground.
