This is not to be confused with the super six. The mercury went through at least three changes. It was an upgrade of the super six series. The third incarnation of the mercury reverted back to a rapier type style body but thicker and had custom adoptions. Most importantly to understand is that They were Not Made in mass. The team at wem music were approximately a 25 strong team and this particular mercury were only made on request of a customer as a bespoke build by Reg watkin himself. How do I know this? ...Well besides looking on the watkins appreciation web page, I was lucky enough to have a personal conversation with a wonderful lady called jude at wem who is the sister in law to Reggie and has worked with the company from day one. I have not seen another one like this on the internet. Specs : Lightly flamed fingerboard Three piece mahogany winged body Schaller tuners 24-9/16th scale length (same as early gibsons) Pots are all stamped made in uk. Humbuckers are the original 1976- 80 dimarzio PAF 103s. Denoted by the brass bass plate, braided wire, rounded slugs, logo and square feet. Dimarzio pickups were not a standard feature on watkins guitars and only installed as a customer upgrade. Truss works both ways and neck is straight. It is currently undergoing refurbishment to bring it back to its former glory. It will be perfectly set up and fully complete before shipping. This has a wonderful feeling neck. I just know this is going to be a beautiful guitar to play. Its decal is still intact which is a bonus as often they don't make it. This is a wonderful piece of british guitar making. Wem no longer produce guitars and have not done so since the eighties. However they are still going primarily with amplification and the renowned hand wired "copy cat" unit. All still british made.
