This is a vintage (serial number 946910) Olds "Conn 6D clone" Double French Horn. This instrument has the same wrap and bore as a Conn 6D, and plays very well. These horns play very much like Conn 6Ds, though they often have better tone and responsiveness. The valves move well with good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are some small dings, as well as light scratching and etching throughout the instrument. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. The bell engraving reads: “F.E. Olds & Son/ Fullerton, Calif.” This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a somewhat worn hardshell case and a mouthpiece in good condition.How the horn plays: Full, warm and bright sound. The tone is smooth and clear. The horn is responsive and free-blowing. The F and Bb side timbres and match well.
