Luit

Professional lute from the Aegean region - Top: Spruce (AAA-quality) - Soundboard: Maple (butterfly) and walnut - Neck: Linden wood - Neck reinforcement: Wengé - Fretboard: Ebony This lute is specially built for live performances and studio recordings of traditional music from the islands (including Crete) and the surrounding mainland. The instrument is crafted by the renowned luthier I. Tokmakis (Tokmakoglou), whose family tradition is now continued by his son K. Tokmakis. Specifications and hardware The scale length (distance between the nut and the bridge saddle) is 72.5 cm. The instrument is equipped with an Archodis pickup, as is common with traditional instruments from this region. This pickup produces a warm and dynamic sound, preserving all the harmonic overtones of the wood perfectly. The ornaments on the instrument consist of beautifully inlaid abalone and celluloid. Condition and sound The lute has always been carefully kept in its original case and only taken out to play. This has fully preserved the original ease of playing. Due to the natural aging of the solid spruce top, the sound has become much richer, fuller, and warmer over the years. The instrument has a notably low action (string distance to the fretboard), allowing you to play for hours without getting tired. In short: a beautiful, matured handmade instrument by a professional luthier.
