Recently come in from a deceased estate this is a lovely, restored Lachenal English treble concertina in its original case.It is a "New Model" which means that it was a totally new variant of the instrument-in looks anyway-from the early Victorian concertinas. Basically it is the first type of concertina with raised ends-which is a sign of higher quality. This particular instrument is numbered 45230 which would be around 1895-although they kept making the New Model right up to the finish of the Company in the early 1930's.This was the top of the tree until about 1889 when it was superceded by the Edeophone as Lachenal's top model-it was always the second model in their catalogue. This concertina has raised metal ends, metal buttons, steel reeds and 5 fold bellows. It is fitted with recent pads, valves, straps and is tuned to concert pitch. All this is hundreds of pounds worth of work which would have to be spent on restoring most concertinas on Ebay-almost all of which have never been restored and will be in old pitch so quite useless until they have been expensively tuned. It plays well and quickly is in very nice condition and is an absolute bargain at this price and is only being sold as a sale item because I have another three just like it already in stock. It would be at least £500-£700 more than the starting price in the Folk shops.I ought to mention that the previous owner has fitted it with a strange little attachment which is a small lever adjacent to the lowest G on the right hand side. You can set it to hold the G down to provide a drone if you wish to give a sort of bagpipe or Cajun sound. It has small patches on the bottom folds but by the tremendous condition of the bellows it would appear that these have been fitted as protectors of the bottom fold which usually wear on the thighs when playing. I am pretty sure that they are not covering holes-and the whole bellows are very airtight.Postage would be £20-by courier-insured in the U.K. It would be £70 to the StatesGood Bidding!
