Description
Era: 1954 Brand: Gibson

This is a great vintage guitar that plays and sounds great!  The harder you strum the more it opens up, it seems to have no limits!  It has a red spruce top, mahogany back / sides / neck.  Rosewood fretboard and bridge.  Gorgeous sunburst finish and tortoise pick guard.  All original! Neck is straight and neck joint is perfect.  I have it strung with medium strings and it handles them with ease.  I just had it gone over by the experts at Sweetwater Sound and they repaired two cracks in the back and some minor cracks in the tone bar and braces.  You can see the cleats on one of the back cracks in the pictures, the other was glued.  There are some fine cracks in the top but they are not structural so they didn't touch them.  Some finish checking as you would expect on a 60+ year-old guitar but no flaking and excellent gloss.  It appears this guitar was played very little as there is almost no wear on the neck and frets.  A previous owner appeared to have etched his social security number into the back of the headstock which I didn't attempt to repair because I think it adds to the character of this vintage instrument.  Serial number dates it to 1954 but the headstock logo is the one used a coupe of years earlier (where the dot on the "i" touches the "G").  Not uncommon for Gibson to mix and match parts in that era.   This is a rare find and would be a great collector piece that will appreciate in value...or gig with it!  Ships in a hardshell case.
