Here we have a 1961 Gibson EM200 mandolin.
I purchased this a few years ago in New Jersey.
I have never offered it for public sale this is the first time listed.
The neck (fretboard forward from the nut) has an area
where the finish was stripped and re-lacquered clear
to accommodate a capo. I have never used a capo with it
since buying it but there is definite evidence of capo wear.
The headstock lower scroll has been re attached and repaired
and this is very typical of these. It is the original scroll joint
that dried up and came apart or got knocked off.
Someone decided to make sure the lower wing stayed on
and used a wood screw to accomplish that. I left it alone.
A previous owner also put his name on the headstock
with a label gun (see pic). By the time I bought it the
label was gone but the imprint is still visible.
I don't know if it is adhesive or melted lacquer so
I left it alone too, I believe Vasselli is the last name.
The first name, S-eor or S-eok, is hard to read.

I have been unable to get any Google match even close. Also this was a gift to it's original owner from Jackie Gleason.
I am told that owner's name was Paul Newman.
I quote from my contact's email as received directly by me:
"It was something that had to do with the movie they were played in,
The Hustler, you might of heard of it,released in 1961,

It was a gift to Paul Newman. It was kinda a joke gift on the set,
Gleason was going to get him a banjo but I guess this caught his eye...lol.
Dig a lil deeper now that you have a bit of history,
I know all this because my 1st cousin is actor James Woods."Hardware is or once was gold. In other words the mandolin
is 100 % original parts-wise but some gold finish has worn off
The back of the body has a protective overspray that looks like Krylon.
The back was not worn away to start with so it is all there underneath.
The front, sides and neck are original except for the capo area previously described.
Real sweet P90 pickup and very chimey. Sounds great.
Fretboard has original frets and zero issues.
Original Gibson case and a leather strap.
These are ridiculously rare in original all black from the factory.
Less than a handful exist.
I have tried to present this to you as completely as I can.
The hardware, electronics, etc is all original to the instrument.
The case is also original and included.
The tailpiece does say Gibson on it and was gold.
It has an absolutely killer patina and from all sides looks great.
It plays like butter and action is fantastic with no buzzes, etc.
There is some weather checking and missing paint as shown in small doses
but overall this is still very cool and would make a great live instrument.
This mandolin is in excellent playable condition as is.
It is very loud!! Super resonant and clear nice tone even unplugged.
This mandolin is also for sale on Reverb.com and locally .
Offers considered.
