Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a truly unique and very rare early Japanese RSA ribbon bi-directional microphone made during the 1950's As you can see in the pictures provided this microphone has a typical metal frame with lower yoke like most of the ribbon mics from the 40's and 50's. The original painted finish shows a little wear but it's quite nice considering. The polished chrome accents are very nice. Most of the wear comes in the form of a few chips in the paint and lite corrosion on the RSA name plate as seen in pic # 5. This R.L.1 model is so uber rare i have never seen another. This is a microphone for the hardcore mic enthusiast who demands rarity. The mic does still work but it will need a new ribbon and most likely a new motor and magnets as these start to deteriorate over the decades. The old magnets weren't built as good as they are today. The signal strength on this RSA is only about 5% to 10%. The yoke holds strong and allows for a smooth rotation to any degree needed. The upper portion swivels from side to side as well if needed. Mic is solid with zero loose parts or rattling. The mic is appx 9 inches tall X 2 1/4 inches wide and built like a tank. Weighs almost 3 pounds! The on / off switch needs to be addressed as it's always on. The mic comes with it's original stand adapter allowing you to mount this to any Japanese or American microphone stand. I do know just the gentleman to restore this mic to full operational status in Georgia and his work is extremely reasonable. Please ask if you are interested in his services? An original 5 foot cable is included and in great condition being free of any cracks or dry rot. It has a male 1/4 inch end connector as well for use with most modern audio equipment and all guitar amplifiers. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...for display purposes only. I would rate the cosmetic condition of this RSA a very conservative 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 as far as cosmetics. This would make a great display piece in the home, office or studio. An instant conversation piece. Again...super rare and highly collectible. As with all my vintage items... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping. If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
