This listing is for one Grace Design 201 stereo mic preamp made in Boulder Colorado. Its a very straight forward but excellent sounding preamp, features include a dual gain stage with input and trim knobs for each channel which is quite useful for dialing in the best sound with different types of mics, a phase reverse for each channel, -20db pad for each channel, and individual phantom power for each channel as well. This model is the predecessor to the M201 that is the stereo preamp presently being manufactured by Grace, the M201 has a couple minute differences in terms of features but they are very much the same in terms of sound quality, they are both extremely transparent and musical preamps. The M201 has built in MS processing, a high Z input for use as a DI,  extra gain setting for ribbon mics, and there is an optional A-D card that you can purchase separately at a steep price. The MS processing may appeal to some engineers but for most of us that are tracking directly into our DAW there is little appeal for this feature, in fact most would prefer not have this feature because committing tracks that are processed in this manner leaves considerably less opportunity for manipulation of the stereo image in post production. I love to record stereo tracks using MS but I much prefer to create do the processing in my DAW.. It just makes more sense to me. As for the A-D card, this may appeal to individuals recording live stereo tracks directly into a field recorder or laptop or perhaps those with mediocre converters in there primary interface but the card is quite expensive and for most is probably not really a necessary feature..  I personally own several outboard preamps that do have built in A-D on them but I generally wind up using the converters in my interface or a dedicated AD converter that is hooked up to my interface via ADAT or AES connection.
Honestly the only differences that I would find useful would be the high Z input and the ribbon mic setting. That being said I have used this preamp many times to capture tracks with traditional passive ribbon mics and it seems to have plenty of gain for me to do so without getting noisy at all. Even on things like acoustic guitar..
The philosophy behind all of Grace Designs preamps is to capture the sound being recorded with as little coloration as humanly possible. They are some of the most transparent preamps on the market. If you want to capture on tape exactly what you are hearing these are excellent preamps. Ive used this one a ton over the years for things like classical guitar and other acoustic instruments. When you have a really great player in the studio and they are playing a great sounding instrument you can do no better, especially when coupled with a nice neutral mic like a km84, sennheiser mkh8040, DPA etc..
These are made in Boulder Colorado, this one being an older unit when would have been built when production was very small, not that there quality has suffered as they have grown but I think this is a great preamp that will continue to serve someone well for ages.. The attention to detail and clean wiring under the hood is unsurpassed and the folks at Grace Design offer the absolute best customer support in the business. They are awesome, I cannot say enough about them in this regard.
This is a great opportunity to pick up a super preamp at a great price. Grace products can be found in many a world class studios and classical music venues all over the world, and are also highly revered by tapers and others doing field recording. This one is in perfect working condition and is cosmetically excellent as well. Really nothing but good things to say on this one... I have have the original manual and will ship it very securely for 25.00$ in CON US, international sales are welcome but I would prefer to ship it via ebays international shipping program. Please feel free to reach out to me with questions, offers etc... I will respond quickly and I will ship very quickly once payment has been processed. Thanks for looking!
I am the second owner. I have the original manual but not carton. I live less than couple hours from there new location in Lyons but I ve visited both locations. They have a very impressive operation. When I bought the unit from this guy in Littleton CO that writes music for commercials I could tell it had seen very little usage. I also spoke with the folks at Grace and they happily offered to give the unit a thorough check up at no cost. It just sounded great so I didn t bother but I m sure they would do the same for you. Thanks, Andrew
