1995 GETZEN "CAPRI" MODEL 590S-T - SILVER PLATED MEDIUM LARGE BORE Bb TRUMPET WITH A CUSTOM BRUSHED/ POLISHED FINISH IN NEAR MINT PLUS CONDITION
I have been playing horns for 59 years...collecting and restoring vintage trumpets and cornets, and building custom horns for 48.  Over the decades I amassed a vast trumpet/ cornet collection.  During the past few years I have thinned out the herd and continue to do so.  All my horns are gig ready...cleaned, valves adjusted & aligned with new corks & felts when necessary. PLEASE LOOK AT THE OTHER HORNS I HAVE LISTED For your consideration, here is a 21 year old Getzen Capri Model 590S-T that is in need of a new owner.  It has seen little or no play time in its history and is about as close to "like new" as it gets.  The horn is straight, without dents nor repairs of any nature whatsoever, and has a modern custom brushed/ polished finish.
Prior to the 1963 factory fire, Carl "Doc" Severinsen (Johnny Carson's bandleader on the "Tonight Show") became affiliated with Getzen, and as chief of research and development, designed the 900 Eterna and 590 Capri series of trumpets and cornets.  Both series were introduced in the fall of 1964 and garnered immediate kudos.  At the time, Getzen listed the Capri as a semi-pro model until the introduction of the Eterna 700 series when it was then demoted to intermediate status.  Quite frankly, it's just a way for manufacturers to add more models to their lineups in an effort to sell more instruments.  What really counts is how well does the 590 perform...well enough that Chet Baker played one during his recording years of 1986-87!  A current production 590S-T retails for $1,970. and sells at deep discount for $1,379....why pay those prices when you can have this custom finished Capri in excellent condition for considerably less.
This 590S Capri is a fairly lightweight 2 lb. - 5.6 oz. trumpet that will accommodate virtually any music style and acoustic venue.  The trumpet has a clear and resonant tone that is easily controlled...its sound is big, bold, rather round, centered and focused.  It is a very free and open blowing horn with a rich, slightly warm tone that produces a sophisticated edge when pushed, and loves to be piloted in the stratosphere.  This horn has excellent intonation...the low register is not flat, and is very resonant.  The 5th harmonic is great, and so is the upper register intonation.  Slots are superb.  Responsive and flexible, the Capri 590S makes a great jazz horn, but will perform well playing commercial, legit styles, and even performs well in orchestral settings as it doesn't overpower the other section horns.
Mechanically, the trumpet is in like new condition with valves that look like they came out of the factory yesterday...they are shiny without staining nor pitting, and have factory spec compression.  All slides operate with silky smoothness including the 1st valve slide trigger.  Cosmetically, the trumpet exhibits the following very minor blemishes: 1.  The bell flare next to the rim has a small 3/8" mark on its underside at the 7 o'clock position that is also visible on the bell interior along with a few almost imperceptible micro pings...you really have to look hard to find them.  I produced a modern brushed finish on the body of the horn, while the bell interior, slides, valve caps and key buttons remain highly polished.  Except for the aforementioned extremely minor flaws, the rest of the trumpet is in flawless mint condition.  I tend to be overly critical and as accurate as possible when describing my horns, so that no one receives any "surprises".  So, bid with confidence as I think you'll find my feedback speaks for itself.
