Welcome to Yung Flutes Shakuhachi. Perry Yung trained in Japan under Kinya Sogawa for professional shakuhachi crafting in the Chikusing Tamai (Jiari - fine-tuned) and Watazumi (jinashi/hotchiku - natural bore) lineages. He is a multi-grant recipient from the Japan United States Friendship Commission (2003) and Asian Cultural Council (2014) specializing in shakuhachi.
"Over the past four decades, I have seen the cost of good bamboo shakuhachi from Japan go up and up. They have now become more than many of my students are willing or able to spend. This is especially so with people just starting off on their shakuhachi journeys. Recently, I asked Perry if he had any reasonably priced shakuhachi for sale. He sent me two of his Tensei flutes. They were exactly what I was after. I've only seen two of Perry's Tensei flutes so far, but they certainly won't be the last I'll be getting for my students. Knowing Perry's penchant for perfection, I can comfortably give his flutes my highest recommendation." ," - Riley Lee, Dai Shihan, Organizer of the World Shakuhachi Festival, Sydney, Australia 2008. - Riley Lee
It is Flute #3 on this auction. I always try to play with a neutral breath to represent as clearly as possible the natural voice, tuning and response with manipulation.

This is a repaired and restored, authentic Kino Ryu fine shakuhachi instrument hand crafted in Japan in the 1940's. It is a standard 1.8 length (D pitch) shakuhachi available in my TENSEI Line (rebirth/recycle) of fine Japanese crafted instruments. This JIARI style - fine-tuned-bore - instrument was made according to the high standards of the Japanese shakuhachi community of traditional craftsmen who were working in the golden age of shakuhachi making. Any fine Kinko schooled musician would recognize the quality in crafting and sound production. The flute first came to me with minor wear and tear found in most instruments of this age - utaguchi blowing edge worn crack, minor and loose joint. Everything has been repaired and restored in my Low-impact approach to restorations. It is a highly responsive instrument with a dynamic range and relatively easy to play as far as shakuhachi of this calibre goes. On the Japanese market place for collectable shakuhachi that are very playable, this one would fall in the $2000 price range and up. This is a fine shakuhachi as expected by experienced shakuhachi musicians in Japan and world-wide. It can play any music any experienced player would use it for, form solo honkyoku music of the Komuso Monks to soundtrack recordings and concert. Please know that the standard shakuhachi length is 1.8 in D for lessons. Having served the international shakuhachi community by providing all aspects of professional shakuhachi work for nearly 20 years (flutes, repairs, workshops and performances), I and am proud to say I offer The Best Guarantee in the world. - aside from full servicing and support, the owner can upgrade the flute at anytime with full value applied towards the higher level instrument trade. I have found this to be the best service I can provide to anyone interested in continuous musical growth with a proper instrument. Read more FAQs on my page on the different types of shakuhachi instruments to learn what might be right for you. I welcome all questions. All my instruments are 100% guaranteed for any reason.

"Perry's sensitivity to aesthetics and his technical skills are so honed that he can be trusted with even the most delicate repairs to priceless instruments. The problem for us is that often that you may find a great craftsman or a superlative musician, but it is hard to find both wrapped up in one. In the case of the Shakuhachi, this explains why so few really fine flutes are being produced these days. It is just too hard to develop two careers in our fast paced world, and be up to the standards of the past. But that is what Perry aims for- a target that we all would like to reach with some satisfaction in our lifel
