Vintage Ludwig & Ludwig, Chicago,
early 1920s Professional Model snare drum, 5 x 15, 10-lug
This is a
very rare Ludwig & Ludwig Professional Model snare drum. I’ve chosen to
leave this vintage Ludwig snare in its current condition. It has been repainted
at some point but all of the original parts are present. It still has the original Ludwig & Ludwig Chicago metal stamped
oval badge, indicating that this drum was made in the early 1920’s and well before the sale of the Company in
1929, when the production was moved to Indiana.
The 10 lugs
are all still completely intact. I haven’t taken it all apart, but I’m led to
believe this is a single ply drum. It is
fitted with the original Professional Strainer and is marked with PAT PEND.
The snare is made by John Grey. The hoops are nickel over brass.
Someone has
chosen to attach a tie cleat (in Red) to the shell. Other than the clip and the
old paint job, it’s completely original and intact.
It will cost you a lot more for a
restored version of this Ludwig & Ludwig, Chicago, snare drum, if you can
find one!
