Fender Stratocaster Rosewood Neck
Mfd. 1980 in Fullerton, California
Up for sale is this
genuine, rare Fender Strat neck, made at the
long-shuttered Fender Fullerton plant.
It is in outstanding shape, and still plays
exceedingly well.THE
SPECS:
* Maple C-profile neck
with rosewood fretboard
* Bullet truss rod
adjuster at the headstock
* 21 Medium frets
* 25.5” scale length
* 7.25" neck
radius
* 1+ 5/8" (40.5 mm) wide nut
* Neck depth of 23 mm @ fret 2 and 23.5 mm @ fret 12
* Neck end width is 2 + 3/16" (55.6 mm)
* Micro-tilt 3-bolt neck mount system
* Made in USA quality
Condition:
Excellent, with very little wear.
This neck obviously spent a lot of time sitting in its guitar
case. Its frets must have been dressed recently, because (as you can
see in the pictures) they look nearly perfect. There is light
wear to the rosewood fretboard, which is a dark and handsome color.
There are no real dings on the back of the neck - the marks behind fret 9
you see in one closeup picture are so shallow they can barely be felt.
The only sign of lacquer wear is some discoloration on the treble side
of the neck near the headstock - way out of playing range and not
objectionable at all.
There is some light lacquer wear along the headstock's lower edge, but
no real dings or dents.
This neck was lucky enough to escape
some of the questionable modifications of the Eighties, such
as "upgraded" tuners or a Floyd Rose install. As you
can see in the picture, the headstock's logo is completely
intact. The headstock's serial number has been edited out for
this listing to keep scammers away, but is present in its
entirety on the headstock. Although the serial number on the
neck has an "S9" prefix, the date code at the neck's end identifies this
as being made in 1980.
This is a fairly thick neck for this era; more like an early 70s Fender
neck, with a fat C or perhaps a D profile.
The neck is
straight and true, and its nut appears to be the factory
original.
I've dealt with quite a few 1970s Strat necks, and many
have problems with their truss rods. Not this neck! The truss
rod is in perfect shape, turning normally either way - not too
tightly, and too too loosely. This is VERY important on an old
neck, and the vast majority of ebay sellers don't even check the
truss rod. I ALWAYS check, and I know what the heck I'm doing!
Those other guys, well....
Summing up: this neck played REALLY nicely before being
removed - it needs nothing but tuners, trees, and a 3-bolt Strat
body!

for more pictures.
Installation Notes:
This neck is a perfect fit for any 3-bolt Stratocaster body
with the micro-tilt feature and a 2 + 3/16" neck pocket width.
It will not directly fit most standard 4-bolt modern Fender
Stratocaster bodies, but could be made to work if you are
handy and feel like butchering a vintage neck. Its original
tuners were the chrome Fender/Schaller "F" tuners that fits its 10mm tuner holes (see my
other listings!). Fender necks are easy to install, but be
aware that it may take some expertise to adjust it for your
guitar and bridge. If the action is too high (hard to play) or
too low (the strings buzz) take it to a pro for a truss rod
adjustment and intonation. If you don't know any good
luthiers, ask around your local music shop - they'll know one.
The
price includes:
The 1979/1980 Fender Stratocaster neck as pictured, with its original
nut and tuner bushings.
No returns if you have mounted the neck on your guitar body, so
please examine it carefully before installing it.
Why buy from
me? Some might think my
descriptions are a little too verbose, but
I believe in giving a potential buyer all
the information I have about an item -
with many high-quality photos to show you
EXACTLY what I have to offer. I also pack
my items very well with recycled packaging
and ship quickly. Unlike my competition,
I'm not a faceless business but a
life
