Leland Mandolin Brilliantone 1910-1912
Estimated price for orientation: 575 $
Category: Other Vintage String
Class:
Description Brand: leland Country/Region of Manufacture: United States Model: Mandolin Type: Mandolins
For sale is a well-played Brilliantone Mando, purchased from a Chicago music store who had collected mandolins and was de-accessioning their mandolins. This from other, more experienced players who know about this instrument: "Leland Mandolins are VERY LIKELY made by Chicago's famous pair of high-brow luthiers, the Larson Brothers and are Featured in Bob Hartman's book "The Larson Creations"
Length approximately 24" so it is not a Piccolo Mando, but a standard. This is a lovely instrument and yes it is really called a "Mando" on the label. The label is intact but there is no readable serial number. Research is telling me it is likely from the 1910-1912 The top is beautifully aged spruce. The back and sides are Brazilian rosewood if all that I have read is accurate. No cracks although back is pretty scratched. Rosewood overlay on the headstock and original enclosed tuning pegs that work fine.
