Description
This
is a vintage original RCA 44-BX velocity ribbon microphone used by the WMAQ-NBC
radio station in Chicago through the early 1980’s. My father was given this microphone by the
station when the use of these microphones was discontinued. The microphone has been carefully stored in my
Dad’s home for the last 40 years.
It
is in very good cosmetic condition. The aluminum
ribbon is intact, and the microphone worked fine when it was last used by WMAQ
back in the early 1980’s. The microphone
was updated with a cannon plug attachment by the radio station.
Includes
the original yoke, hard-sided travel/storage case, and 2 vintage WMAQ radio
microphone tags.
“WMAQ
was an AM radio station located in Chicago, Illinois, USA, and broadcast at 670
kHz with 50,000 watts. The station was
in existence from 1922 to 2000, and was the oldest surviving broadcast outlet
in Chicago. It was a class A clear
channel station, and could be heard, particularly at night, over most of the
eastern United States. WMAQ was owned in
its later years by CBS Radio, but for much of its life it was owned by National
Broadcasting Company (NBC), and later Westinghouse Broadcasting.” --Wikipedia
