This is a dream-bass, in every sense.!Please allow me to explain why.
I'll start by describing the neck:
It's a USACG, quarter-sawn, roasted (thermally modified) maple neck with rosewood, fingerboard, clay dots and carbon graphite rods. The headstock was reshaped by a local luthier before I had it painted to look more "traditional". ;)
The back contour is a "C" shape.
The frets are 6320SS. Like vintage Fender or lakland, but stainless steel.
The body is a medium weight, alder that I bought from MJT.
Tuners: Hipshot Ultralite W/de-tuner.
Bridge: KTS titanium $$$$
Pickups: Nordstrand NJ4se With Audere preamp. I even had a battery compartment installed for convenience.
*The color: this is a custom shade of fiesta red with a slightly darker tint applied to it. It's somewhere between fiesta red and Dakota red with matching headstock. It was finished at MJT guitars and is quite stunning in person.
Also, a fossilized, bone nut.
Assembled at Gary Brawer's in San Francisco.
How it sounds:
It can sound like vintage J bass, but with the addition of the roasted, maple neck and titanium bridge it can snap and snarl as a hard as any MTD or Ken Smith out there, but can also sound more traditional.
The Audere preamp makes its tone-shaping abilities very powerful: everything from Tool, to deep dub.
A few small dings. Only used at home and barely played.
Weighs about 9 pounds.
Specs:
Nordstrand NJ4se, KTS titanium bridge, Hipshot ultralite tuners and de-tuner, Audere preamp, USACG neck with roasted maple 6230SS, fossilized, bone nut.
