1930's Vintage Slingerland X-Braced Acoustic Guitar
Estimated price for orientation: 750 $
Category: Acoustic Guitars
Class:
Description Brand: Slingerland Country/Region of Manufacture: United States String Configuration: 6 String Exact Year: 1930's
This is a Slingerland guitar from Chicago made in the 1930's. This has an X-braced top which is interesting and desirable because most guitar builders were making ladder braced tops in this period. All solid mahogany body and original machine heads. I replaced the bridge with a rosewood replacement that intonates much better than the original. The original bridge was non-compensated so it played sharp when fretted (a common problem with a lot of older acoustics). I also replaced a missing back brace that is shown in the photos. The body has no cracks and no warping and there is binding on the top and around the sound hole. Pearl dot inlays in the fingerboard and the heel is nice and tight. The neck is very straight and the action is good. Total length of the guitar is 36 1/2 inches. The lower bout is 13 inches and the upper bout is 9 1/2 inches. Depth of the body is 4 inches at the deepest. The nut width is 1 7/8 inches. The string length is 24 1/4. The sound is warm and rich with the x-braced solid mahogany top. Action is good and this would make the perfect finger picking guitar for someone looking for that old vintage sound.
