For sale is a beautiful antique Boehm style wood flute made by the William S. Haynes Company in 1909.  As you might expect, this is a high quality instrument with a grenadilla wood body in great condition, solid silver keys and mechanism, and gold springs.  A tiny hairline in the headjoint was repaired many years ago, and the headjoint has a beautifully crafted silver band to prevent any further cracks.  Great wood and a beautiful embouchure that gives this flute a wonderfully sweet, woody voice.  The sounding length is 609mm, typical for the first decade of the 20th century, so with the original headjoint, this flute does play below modern pitch at around a=435, but it sounds just fantastic. I did, however, play the flute with a modern Abell headjoint, which shortened the  sounding length to 603mm, and the flute played pretty decently at modern pitch.  So that is a real possibility, especially in a situation where a perfect scale isn't all that important.  As it is, this flute would be perfect for solo work or as part of the duet with a guitar or other tuneable instrument. Comes in an original Haynes case from that period with the original tenon covers and wood grease pot.  In addition, it comes with a fantastic period leather case cover in great shape with a working handle!!! Lovely period instrument with a lovely sound.  Lots of fun to play!!!
