Description

This is a very fine 8-key flute made by T. Dawkins, Makers, London. Standard 8-key design with pewter plugs for the C and C#. Silver lip plate so the embouchure is in excellent condition. This should be an excellent flute for Irish music. It has quite large holes so it has a big, strong, open, sound. Tuning seems quite good. With the tuning slide in the pitch is rather high, maybe A=450 but I can play it at A=440 pulling out the slide 15-17mm. The instruments stays decently in tune, including the low register but the 3rd octave gets tricky although that should not be a concern for Irish music. The flute was probably made around 1860. Restoration was done by Boaz Berney including a head joint and barrel crack - now almost invisible. Original case in good condition is included. If you are seriously interested in this flute I would be happy to demonstrate it and answer specific questions over Skype - please contact me.All sales are final
