A rare, fine certified violin by Mathias Albani, 1675
A very rare, fine violin made by Mathias Albani ca. 1680. Mathias Albani considered to be a Tyrolean maker of Bolzano. He was an extraordinary maker who was well respected during his life time with instruments highly valued even than. William Henley is indicating that Mathias went to master his skills to the Amati shop in Cremona. There are many similarities with great Cremonese contemporaries in internal details of the work, arching, placement of the pins and much more that would support Henley information.
This is a superb example of the maker's work in a rarely excellent state of preservation, with all the original wood untouched and without any patches or usual repairs, typical for instruments of this age. The sound of this instrument is on the level of great old Italian makers, combining a superb projecting power, richness,depth and a remarkable tonal quality. This masterpiece is definitely a concert instrument and a rare opportunity for a collector. The length over the back is 35.5 cm.
