A very fine French viola by Auguste Sebastien Philippe Bernardel Pere, 1850.
A very fine, rare French viola made by Auguste Sebastien Philippe Bernardel Pere in Paris in 1850, as indicated on the maker's label, also signed to the back and certified by J.J. Rampal in Paris. Bernardel Pere was a pupil of Lupot and one of the best and most interesting French makers. This is a nice instrument of a smaller pattern, however the sound is of a wonderful velvety quality, charming character with a fine projection, power and balance. It is in excellent state of preservation. The length over the back is 38.7 cm.
