A very rare, superb old German certified viola bow made by Christian Wilhelm Knopf ca. 1830. C.W. Knopf was one of the most interesting and finest old German masters. His work has a lots of similarities with French contemporaries like Schwartz or Fonclause. This is an outstanding, one of the most beautiful examples made from a finest choice of pernambuco with playing quality suitable for a soloist. It is in a very fine, unpolished state of preservation, ready to play.
The stick is superb red brown pernambuco, octagonal, strong with excellent flexibility, solo level sound and handling. The frog and button are ebony with silver mountings. The length of the stick is 73.25 cm and the weight of the bow is 63 g with very light whale bone winding. The weight of this bow with a regular silver winding will be around 68 g.
