Here is a classic french ANTOINE COURTOIS PARIS breveté model flugelhorn. This horn is silverplated and in very good, hard to find condition. Serial number is 6246, so it was manufactured probably in the late fifties or early 60ies  (hard to determine, there are no serial number records available. The factory in 8 Rue De Nancy, Paris was officially only maintained until 1958). ANTOINE COURTOIS is among France's oldest and biggest brass instrument brands (their history goes back to 1850).This vintage brevete model was the top of the professional Courtois line from the 20ies to the 70ies of the last century - the choice of many famous players. Maynard Ferguson used to play exactly this model before he was endorsed by Holton in the 70ies. On the valve block, there is the serial number 6246, A.COURTOIS PARIS and the valves are numbered .Valve Bore size is .410 of an inch (10.5mm), the bell diameter is 6.1 inches (155mm).The valves are smooth and fast with good compression, they show some slight discolouring on the surface from the age, being made of nickle silver. All slides and screws are free.  The brass alloy of this vintage horn is still of superior quality without evidence of corrosion or red hot. The horn has 100% original silverplating. There are no dents, but 2 small dings on the main crook (see foto). The mouthpiece is an original ANTOINE COURTOIS PARIS Nr. 4 in perfect condition which french taper which fits well. The old original case looks ok and is fully functional. The horn is very clean and was obviously played little and well maintained during all this time. This rare vintage flugelhorn was originally sold in Switzerland. It plays really well and sounds perfect, almost warmer and even fuller than newer comparable Courtois models - as you would expect it from this top brand (new Courtois flugels list around $ 2500).That's why vintage french flugelhorns such as Couesnon, Selmer or Courtois are still highly sought after by professional band or orchestra players.I offer this rare vintage horn from Switzerland to worldwide, priority airmail shipping to the States is $73, please ask for other international destinations. There is no reserve and a low starting bid, so have fun bidding.
